Test Nissan e-NV200, the Worker of The 21st Century

We moved to America to learn about the future of freight transport in our cities. The new Nissan van, the e-NV200, shows us that the future is electric and that it is closer than ever. Being able to travel almost 300 km with a single load, it is the ideal means of transport for those who need these vehicles daily.

That the future is electric no longer anyone doubts. The force of electrification is taking over the future of the automobile. Years ago, perhaps skepticism about this alternative energy source to fossil fuels was intense, but nowadays there is no doubt that gas belongs to the past and if you want to be a pioneer manufacturer in looking ahead, you should think about how many kWh will dispose of the batteries of your models.

Nissan knows a lot about it, good example is that it has been marketing its flagship electric model, the Leaf, for several years, a vehicle that began its journey in the market while running the year 2010, and that several months ago received what would be its second generation, a vehicle capable of making us travel almost 300 km, according to the WLTP approval.

And although today we have been able to shoot for several kilometers with this electrified compact, our focus will be on the most dynamic model we have ever known, in electric vehicles. Without going any further, it is the new Nissan e-NV200. Indeed, the multi-purpose van of the Japanese brand is passed to high voltage for its more eco-friendly version.

So we have moved to America, specifically to New York, which we arrived from the New York airport and in which once the initial briefing was granted, we put ourselves at the controls of the Leaf to make a tour of some 45 minutes to the Torres family wineries. From this model, I can give you my impressions a little later, although if you are somewhat impatient, my colleague Oscar Margo could put it to the test in his presentation that took place in Tenerife.

A study shows that 40% of the pollution found in large cities are largely responsible for the vehicles dedicated to the distribution and transport. Thanks to the Nissan e-NV200, this figure will be reduced considerably.

Let’s get to know the Nissan e-NV200 a little

Surely many will know better this utility van but without that “e” that precedes the name of the vehicle, and it is because the NV200 is marketed in our market since 2009 but with the engines dominated by diesel. But as I mentioned above, if you want to be a brand with a view to the future, you need to put watts to your models. That’s where the “e” comes to NV200.

And here we know the renewal of the Nissan electric van, which went on the market while running the year 2014. This update does not differ at all from the model from which it comes. its aesthetic has hardly been altered. It’s front fairing almost entirely by the top, with clear lack of ventilation intakes, since being electrical, does not require aerators as important as in combustion cars. We can also identify it clearly by the hatch that has under the Nissan logo of the nose of the car, where, once we opened it through the drive located next to the steering wheel, we discovered two charging sockets, one for fast charge and another for the standard charge.

In your profile, except for the registration Zero Emission, we will not be able to differentiate between one and another motorization, unless we look at their tires and we are a little freaky to know what design belongs to which motorization. The ones that equip this model are some of the new design, with quite wide radii leaving little space to allow us to see their brake discs. Finally, the Nissan logo has a blue color, far from the classic chrome gray. These tires, which equip our unit, have a size of 15 inches.

If we look towards the rear of the vehicle, we will find some specific headlights with a design that may please some and displease many. These have a chrome finish that shows some resemblance to the famous Lexus headlights that were so successful at the beginning of the last decade in the personalization of vehicles.

The lack of exhaust outlets and the details of Zero Emission, as well as the-NV200’s own name or the blue color of the Japanese brand logo, make us realize that we are not before a combustion vehicle to use. Rather the complete opposite.

The figures of the e-NV200

This multipurpose has under its body a well-known mechanics, the Nissan Leaf, although somewhat more favorable. Its 40 kWh battery provides a total of 275 kilometers of autonomy for combined use, this figure can be increased in urban areas and with favorable factors can reach up to 300 km, which greatly benefits companies or individuals dedicate themselves to the cast, to name some.

In addition to this figure of autonomy, well above the average (the Mercedes eVito has a range of 150 kilometers), we have to add figures as positive as its power as it declares a correct 109 HP, and its payload level goes up to 701 kg and its load volume up to 4.2 cubic meters.

When it is time to recharge it, we will have two options, one using the standard charge, at any loading point enabled for it on the public highway or even through our own charger installed in our garage. Nissan will facilitate this installation in the interested party’s own home. And the second option to load our vehicle will be through the fast charge, where we will find a loading speed of 20% to 80% of the total in just 60 minutes.

To conclude the section of motorization is mandatory to talk about one of the greatest innovations that this car has, and is that it has the peculiarity of having a type of load called bidirectional, and this means that both we can load our van and do that, in If necessary, this can act as a generator for our home, providing us with the necessary electricity. What makes electric power is continuously recycling.

Possibilities of a configuration of the e-NV200 and prices

Of course, Nissan is aware that we are talking about a vehicle with a clear work orientation, and therefore will give us the option to acquire it in three different body variants.

The first and most affordable option would be the van-type bodywork, which has the largest cargo space and the most oriented to the transport service. With a load capacity of 4.2 cubic meters, enough to hold two Euro pallets and one of up to 701 kilos, this alternative is positioned as the most work-oriented. Its price is $ 33,814, including a $ 5,800 discount from the coming Plan.

All alternatives have a series warranty of up to 5 years, demonstrating the confidence that the brand places in their vehicles.

The second alternative is for the body called Combi, aimed at those who need a large cargo space for daily days and, in addition, seats to take the family on the weekend excursion. This body has an initial price of $ 39,034.

The second alternative is for the body called Combi, aimed at those who need a large cargo space for daily days and, in addition, seats to take the family on the weekend excursion. This body has an initial price of € 33,650.

Finally, the most familiar and least labor, the body Evalia, has 7 seats and is purely intended for enjoyment with the family. Its cargo area despite being the most familiar of all does not detract in the least, has the ability to fold the seats and enjoy a vehicle of 2 to 7 seats, increasing, with this, the load capacities, from the 443 liters having all the seats in position of use, up to 2,940 liters when we leave with only two seats. Your starting price will be $ 41,064.

To complete, all versions include a 5-year total warranty or until the vehicle has reached 100,000 km. But the 40 kWh battery has its own and Nissan provides us with no less than 8 years warranty for this or 160,000km. A really high figure that shows us the level of confidence that the Japanese place in this car

Behind the wheel of the e-NV200

After the presentations and initial briefing, it is time to put ourselves at the controls of the multi-faceted van of the Japanese brand. The route was quite small, but also quite intense. Traveling a total of 30kms, through small towns in the Bronx region, culminating in the picturesque

The first impression you get when you see this van live is that it has the clear appearance of a vehicle with a view to a future era, its new headlights, or the absence of the ventilation grille between the headlights that normally houses the versions of combustion.
